IIT Guwahati Hostels
IIT Guwahati comprises 12 hostels of which 10 are boys’ hostels and 2 are of girls’. There is also a Married Scholars’ Hostel that houses married pupils pursuing their further studies.
- Manas Hostel
Manas, named after the tributary of Brahmputra river, is the oldest hostel in the premises of the campus. It can house 300 students at a time.
Its exclusive facilities include awesome mess food and in house laundry services.
- Dihing Hostel
Dihing was the second hostel to be built on the campus of IIT Guwahati. It has many facilities like great mess, ground for cricket and football, and other sports.
It also hosts an annual intra-hostel football event called Dihing Premier League (DPL).
- Barak Hostel
This is the seventh hostel on the IIT Guwahati premises. Earlier it housed students of MTech and Ph.D. alone, but since 2011 it also boards BTech students.
It has a whopping capacity of 500 students comprising of all branches and years.
- Siang Hostel
Siang Hostel is named after the Siang valley in Arunachal Pradesh. Established in 2004, it was fourth to be on campus. Siang has a capacity of 300 students.
The most exquisite fact is its location. It is located at the most picturesque location that is in front of the lake of IITG.
- Kameng Hostel
Kameng is another that is named after a Brhmputra tributary. It accommodates 504 students in 4 blocks. Established in 2005, it is equipped with most facilities.
- Lohit Hostel
Lohit is the newest hostel to join the campus of IIT Guwahati. It accommodates a whopping 800+ students. The students belong to almost all courses and all years.
It is the only hostel on campus to house foreign male students.
- Brahmputra Hostel
Brahmputra Hostel is the largest hostel in the campus. Established in 2012, it can house more than a thousand boarders at a time. It is equipped with all the necessary facilities like washing-machines and water coolers.
It is also surrounded by four large grounds for external sports indulgences.
- Umiam Hostel
Umiam, established in 2008, is a decent hostel. It has a capacity of 504 hostelers. A mix of undergraduate and postgraduate pupils stay together and share the experiences of life at IITG.
- Kapili Hostel
Kapili will give you a complete feel of studying in a prestigious institution like IITG. you can always find the library filled with students.
Even the common area buzzes of theories and formulae at all times.
- Dhansiri Hostel
Dhansiri is the newest girls’ hostel on the campus of IIT Guwahati. It has spacious rooms and clean alleys. It mainly houses BTech girls along with a few Master’s girls too.
It is near to the new SAC, hence saving a lot of commutes.
- Subhansari Hostel
Subhansari is the first girls’ hostel of IITG, inaugurated in 2003. It is a decent hostel with all the basic facilities in place. It houses about 500 scholars at a time.
It is accommodated mainly by research scholars, post-doctoral fellows, trainees, project staff, and administration staff.
- Married Scholar’s Hostel
Married Scholar’s Hostel is a unique kind of a hostel. It comprises of about 170 rooms for married scholars pursuing their master’s or Ph.D.
It even has a children’s play area, lawns, and other game grounds around it.
IIT Guwahati Mess Food
All the hostel messes at IIT Guwahati are assured to be serving the best food. Students hardly complain about the food as they are satisfied with it.
As for those who are non-vegetarian, the mess takes care of that also. They serve non-veg twice a week for dinner in the form of chicken and egg kadhi. Sadly, there are no other options besides these.
However, the quantity and quality of food live up to the expectations of a prestigious institute like IIT. Also, if you wish to have a change of taste you have plenty of other options like the in-hostel canteen and other food facilities on the campus.
Another perk of the IITG hostel is having a pantry. Yes! The children have access to the pantry to cook their meals once in a while. That means you can treat your midnight hunger pangs with Maggi.
